Sharing the Zentangle® Art Method in La Jolla & San Diego
October’s class was dedicated to the arrival of Autumn. Having been introduced to a new drawing surface, suede, by the last Zentangle Project Pack, I found a similar “velour” item on Amazon from Hahnemule. I chose the light yellow sheet as our tile for the class.
The idea for this tile was inspired from a class offered by Diana Schreur, CZT of the Netherlands. She led this class as one of the offerings of CZT AE 2021. While hers was featured as a bookmark, I changed it up, using different patterns to create our Autumn ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art).
Patterns used were Knightsbridge, Well, Crescent Moon, Mrth, Sampson, Printemps and Tipple from Zentangle; Gelijoy from Nadine Roller; Inafleur and Moonberries from Debbie New; and Henna Drum from Jane MacKugler.
With the background already a nice yellow, we tangled in black, then added pastel chalk pencils for color, and Gold Sparkle Pop for shine. A couple ladies chose to do a trial run on a Phi tile and save their velour for another time. All in all, these turned out beautiful. Everyone agreed it was a fun surface to tangle on, so smooth and easy. Zentangle is offering the suede tiles used in the Project Pack on their website now.
The last class of 2026 is coming up on November 15th at Icarus. At this time, there is a waiting list. If you would like to be put on that list, email me at tanglesbythesea@gmail.com, and I’ll add your name. There will be no class in December. I will post new dates for 2027 mid-December here on this site.
